Hey guys, my name is Kevin Garcia and I’ll be graduating in April. Here’s a little bit about me. I initially came to UVU on a full scholarship to dance Ballroom for the Tour Team, a couple semesters later I went pro with my competition partner and had to give up team since I was traveling out of state often to compete. Dance has opened so many doors for me in my life, I’m very appreciative for it. Shortly after I gave up team I became a student ambassador for the Multicultural Department at UVU, that opportunity opened up even more doors. I am currently the Outreach Coordinator for the department and work with many great leaders and ambassadors to help with student success. Aside from working as the Coordinator I’m also the departments filmmaker for their big events like Bachatafest. I’ve been traveling since I was a teen and my love for travel is infinite. Through traveling I developed a love for film and photography, I taught myself how to film and edit videos and that has been another handy skill. I’ve been able to travel for free and have even gotten sponsored by a few resorts to film some promo’s, both in Mexico and in Thailand. I currently balance 3 jobs 19 credits and have a crap load of service hours, but I can’t wait for life post college.
The first three weeks of school have been great, I can’t complain. There’s something about being a senior that simply makes your last semester more enjoyable than the rest, maybe it’s because I can see the finish line. Working in the Multicultural department has opened my eyes and mind to how diverse UVU really is. I’ve met some pretty cool people during my time here and one of them is President Tuminez, she speaks about 7 different languages including Spanish, and it’s always a blast working with her. She is so passionate about the university and she has created a culture at UVU that anyone can feel welcome to. I look forward to a great semester!
